News 2017

22nd December

Top Breeder 2017. Top Puppy 2017. So many miles but well worth it with this award at the end of it all. The 'Team' done good. Proud breeder.

17th December

Grandaughter Elizabeth and I went to Beverley to attend Bridlington CS Open Show. As always a lovely affair and once again, much enjoyed. Elizabeth handled Beresford Night Spell to BP in Breed, Calvdale Hot Momma won Yearling and Calvdale Heritage of Folly JW won BOB. Elizabeth took BOB WSS with her mothers Chanangel Sticky Wicket JW and then later piloted him to Group One. Nothing in BIS but what a super day for an eleven year old and so many lovely comments about her handling. Caught up with a few folk before Christmas and would like to thank judges Jennie Tracz and Pat Butler Holley for thinking so highly of those taken under them today.

May we take this opportuniy to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and here's to a successful 2018.

10th December

LKA saw a wonderful day with the breeding here at Calvdale. Calvdale Hot Momma making her debut at a Champ Show won Puppy bitch. Beresford Night Spell was 2nd in the class, ably handled by Grandaughter Elizabeth. Junior bitch winner was Calvdale Heritage of Folly JW who also finished the year as Top Puppy in Breed for 2017. Limit Bitch was the star today with Calvdale Hot Pink JW gaining her second CC and in Open Sh Ch Calvdale Diamond Heist JW ShCM was content with the 2nd place. Elizabeth handled the puppy in the challenge and did marvellously. We look forward to a bright 2018 with a young and competitive squad.

30th November

Whoop whoop. Delighted to read in this weeks Our Dogs that our homebred Calvdale Heritage of Folly JW is this years Top Puppy in Breed. 'Babs' took over the lead when her kennel mate Calvdale Beautiful Romance went out of puppy early in the year and she has continued her winning ways right through to the end and gained a RCC on the way.

Handled initially by myself, Angela then took over the task and a good partnership they have become. Delighted breeder. Looking forward to 2018 with a positive attitude and some nice young stock to carry on with.

23rd November

Delighted to say that Dr Stuart Ellis attended us here at home where we were holding the annual eye examinations, open to all who wish to attend. Some completely new to the testing today and some that have been tested before plus a few Gonio renewals, now that every three years is the requirement in English Springers.. Delighted to say all passed with flying colours and my bank balance is several hundred pounds lighter than it was this morning. Cost aside, it is good to know we are producing dogs with healthy eyes and good history of same. Long may it continue. Dr Ellis's comment when looking at Hot Pink was 'fabulous. Excellent. She has such pretty Iris's. The colours are wonderful'. So there we are folks. Even her Iris's are pretty. Lol.

19th November

Lovely day at North of England Spaniel. RBIS with our 13 month old Calvdale Heritage of Folly JW. Thanks to breed judge Jennie Tracz and BIS judge Fran Glendinning.

7th November

Little later with our news of the weekend but an enjoyable day spent at Midland English Springer Spaniel Championship Show on November 5th. Sh Ch Calvdale Diamond Heist JW ShCM was awarded the bitch CC and BIS by judge Celia Woodbridge. Calvdale Night Court JW Sh CM (2 CC's) was second in Open and RCC dog. Calvdale Hot Pink JW(1CC) (daughter of Night Court) won a very nice Limit Bitch class and my wonderfully talented Grandaughter Elizabeth (10 Years old) handled her charge Beresford Night Spell (another Night Court daughter) to win Puppy bitch.

All in all not a bad day at the office. Enjoyed lunch and sharing in the birthday celebrations of Lesley McCourt with cake and wine all added to a thoroughly nice day. Lovely gift from the judge too. I will enjoy in due course. Thanks to Richard for his assistance.

Congratulations to Nicola Dobbins for her BIS. To Catriona Brough for RBIS and we were delighted with BPIS with Night on The Tiles (albeit we were wishing for Elizabeth to get it) and the wonderful Elizabeth handling her charge to MPB, PB and BPB/RBPIS and she was also Best Child Handler.

Such a nice win for her with her puppy Eva. Some wins on the raffle and several slices of lovely cake. Made the ride home before this 'storm' was due to come in.

28th August

Lovely day again at SKC in Edinburgh but had its ups and downs. Super proud as a breeder though to have BP, PGB and OB in the bitch lineup and LD in the dog lineup (RCC) and 2nd in OD called in to challenge for the RCC. Others were well placed included the 2nd in LB expertly handled by young Elizabeth.Well done to Yvonne Richardson for her CC = first ever I do believe. So emotional she was bless her.

Well done to all winners and particularly to Calvdale Heritage of Folly (Babs) handled by Angela who was once again BPIB, took RCC bitch and then a very nice Puppy Group 3. Well done you! Do hope Marlene Hepper (Labs) is feeling better after being taken ill at the show early on and Angela stayed with her till medical help could be summoned The long journey home is the ballbreaker but we will recover and regroup given time. Now for feet up and a cuppa while Granddad Martin , Angela and girls have gone school uniform shopping as the time gets closer for their return to school.

21st August

A long and at times winding road to Builth Wells and the WKC Championship Show yesterday but worth every winding mile. Best Puppy Dog went to Calvdale Night On The Tiles (Paddy) who was pipped for Best Puppy in Breed by kennel mate Calvdale Heritage of Folly (Babs) who won Puppy Bitch and then BPIB and she was also shortlisted in a very nice Group. The star of our day was Calvdale Beautiful Romance (Nancy) who won Junior Bitch and then took the CC. Tickled pink and delighted with this girl. She is current Top Puppy in Breed and has had a few weeks off taking some well deserved R & R. Bounced back in some style. The irrepressible Hot Pink (the beautiful Black and White) took second in Post Grad bitch today behind the ultimate RCC winner and following her own CC at Leeds. Well you can't win em all and we were happy with the result. Huge thank you to our judge Jacky Ward and to Angela who handled Babs again today. A pleasant atmosphere and a bit of banter and a few drinks after to celebrate someone else's 3rd CC. Good day at the office. Congratulations to all the winners.

21st July

Fabulous day at Leeds Championship Show for me as a very proud breeder. Five of the bitches in the bitch challenge were Calvdale bred and I am proud of every one of them. Best Puppy Bitch, Best Veteran in Breed (who also took Group 2 Veteran) were both Calvdales and the highlight for me personally was to take Bitch CC from Postgraduate with Calvdale Hot Pink, our irrepressible Black and White appearing in Post grad for the first time at a Champ Show. Thanks to our judge Kelly Jenkinson for appreciating and rewarding. Well done to the winners. Short ride home for a change.

19th June

Hot hot hot day at Kelso yesterday for the Border Union Championship Dog Show. Delighted to add to the list of achievements with a further BPIB for our Calvdale Heritage of Folly. Feeling the heat but still managing to get Best Puppy in Breed. Also a wonderful day for Angela on gaining CC number 2 with her beloved WSS 'Spin'. Congratulations to all winners and to both judges concerned David Shields and Sharon Barkley. A good ride home enjoying the beautiful scenery.

11th June

A very successful debut performance for our homebred Calvdale Night on The Tiles at his first show, Northern ESS Championship Show where he was Best Puppy Dog. Best Puppy in Show going to his kennel mate Calvdale Heritage of Folly. The 'so laid back and wonderfully soft' Calvdale Great Escape took a non too shabby 2nd in Open Dog. Thanks to Maddie Eddleston and Angela who fitted in the handling of these dogs on a busy day and thanks to Ray Smith for his placings and comments.

21st May

It was the long trek to Edinburgh to show at the SKC under judge Tom Mather.

We took three dogs today and came home with 2 firsts, 1 second and a Best Puppy in Breed. First in Postgraduate Dog was Keel (Calvdale Keelman). Second place for Rob (Calvdale Great Escape) who happens to be Keels Grandfather, in the Open Dog class and standing behind the eventual Best of Breed. First place in Puppy Bitch to Babs (Calvdale Heritage of Folly) and she was awarded Best Puppy in Breed also.

14th May

What a fabulous weekend which started with the 55th Anniversary show at Newton Aycliffe. Calvdale Heritage of Folly was BPIB and Puppy Group 1 under judge Bob Lane (Kulawand) and she then went on to BPIS under judge Mrs A Maltas (Virlees).  Maddie Eddleston took a lovely Group 2 with Calvdale Nash Bridges.

Seaham CS today where Gundogs were judged by Val Grant (Stairfoot). She found her BPIB/BOB/Group 1 and Puppy Group 1 in C. Heritage of Folly.  Nothing in BPIS but she showed well despite her youth

30th April

Pleasant day at WELKS yesterday catching up with folk and enjoying the show. Our judge was Frank Kane and he went over his entry in good time. Well done to all winners but especially enjoyable that once again Calvdale Heritage of Fortune won Minor Puppy Bitch, Calvdale Beautiful Romance was first in Puppy Bitch and eventually Best Puppy in Breed. Off to watch grand-daughters tackle some 'pony stuff' today and we shall enjoy that too am sure.

23rd April

Today at Sunderland Canine Society Open Show at Houghton le Spring. Breed judge Simon Wincup Grindey. BOB Calvdale Nash Bridges. Best Puppy Calvdale Beautiful Romance and she also won the Gundog Puppy Group under judge Kelly Jenkinson. Calvdale Heritage of Folly took a second in a lovely Puppy Stakes class and Nash Bridges won the Graduate Stakes.

9th April

Back home after a very productive day at the ESSC Championship Show in Leicestershire. Calvdale Keelman JW won a nice Postgrad class. Calvdale Heritage of Folly (6 months one day) won MPB (whoop whoop) and kennel mate Calvdale Beautiful Romance continued her run of good luck and once again won Puppy Bitch, Best Puppy Bitch and Best Puppy in Show.

Thanks to Sarah and Maddie for their help and a pleasant show enjoyed in the great outdoors. Many will have caught the sun, like I have done.

2nd April

Lovely day at Lancashie & Cheshire ESS Championship Show under our judge Steve Wraith, all the way from Australia. Best Puppy in Show with our Calvdale Beautiful Romance and Calvdale Hot Pink the Yearling bitch. Lovely atmosphere and a day spent with friends. Delighted for Ray Smith on winning the DCC and RBIS with 'Buzz' who is sired by our own Sh Ch Calvdale Zero to Hero JW ShCM and to George and Angela Ternent on the RCC in bitches with 'Leila' who is sired by Calvdale Great Escape JW. A nice day at the office and a good day for the breeding and the connections.

19th March

Whitehaven & D Canine at Penrith was the place on Sunday. Judge David Todd (Chataway). Our puppy Calvdale Beautiful Romance (aka Nancy) was BP and BOB and then Puppy Group 4 on the day. Lovely day spent in good company.

11th March

Well we had a lovely Crufts 2017 under breed judge John Palmer (Roandew).

First in the ring was Maddie Eddleston with her Calvdale Nash Bridges who took a very creditable third in Yearling Dog. Following on was Calvdale Keelman JW who had a very successful puppy career and has been resting at home since September in order for him to mature a little and have some much needed ‘time out’. He was appearing in the Post Graduate dog class for the first time and boy did he do me proud. Winning the class and putting up a super relaxed performance. Jo Cunliffe won Veteran bitch with the exuberant Sh Ch Calvdale My Girl of Fallenleaf and Janet Goodman was third in that class with Calvdale Swag. Our ‘baby’ of the current show team and continuing her winning run  is Calvdale Beautiful Romance who did us all proud by winning Puppy Bitch  and then went on to Best Puppy in Breed. She is a combination of lines that have mixed and done well as her mother is a Melverly bitch but sired by our own Sh Ch Calvdale Zero to Hero JW ShCM, who also sired the winners of the Open Dog and Junior Dog classes. So the  breeding did well and we congratulate all the winners on the day.

That’s CRUFTS over for another year.

Calvdale Hot Pink JW and her brother Calvdale Nash Bridges were in the cards and much admired. Huge congrates to Wendy & Steve Walker on gaining the dog CC. Lovely to see you back in the ring Wendy. Ann and Sarah had a great day with BCC and RBCC . Well done all winners and big thanks to our judge today John Palmer for thinking so highly of our dogs. Night all.

5th March

Today I went to Thorpe Willoughby Near Selby to attend the Midland English Springer Spaniel Open Show - Judge Kath Holt. Took three dogs Keel Calvdale Keelman who hasn't been out for a while won his class. Nancy Calvdale Beautiful Romance the puppy bitch won Puppy bitch and was Best Puppy In Show and Cora, Calvdale Hot Pink won Yearling bitch and Best Black and White in Show. Thank for the gifts for Best Puppy and a good day at the office with friends. Well done to all other winners.

26th February

A long long drive to Chalfont St Giles to attend the Southern English Springer Spaniel Championship Show which was judged by John Lillie (Freeway). Calvdale Beautiful Romance (Nancy) was on good form and took first place in Puppy Bitch and then went on to BPIS. Calvdale Hot Pink (Cora) who has been having a rest period after finishing the year as DW and Our Dogs Joint Top Puppy in Breed for 2016 (along with Bethryn Devil Moon) came back with a bang and won Yearling Bitch which I believe was one of the largest classes of the day .

Good atmosphere, good friends and some scrummy food. Congratulations to the Committee who obviously worked hard and put on a very enjoyable well supported event. Must be a lucky show for us as three out of the last 4 years we have had BPIS. Thanks to friends for forwarding the photos on to me. Nice to be able to see what everyone else can. Thanks for the lovely comments about the dogs and was nice to see some new kids on the block sired by our males. Finally thanks must go to travelling companions George, Sylvia and Graham. Not forgetting Daniel for stepping forward to handle the puppy in the challenge. Wonderful as usual. Today Angela was judging Gundogs and the Group at Billingham where she had a good entry and a lovely day.
